    Dear Leaders and Colleagues,

At IAMRA, we remain committed to advancing medical regulation through global collaboration and shared learning. This commitment was strongly reflected in recent engagements across our community, including the Federation of State Medical Boards’ 114th Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. I would like to extend warm congratulations to our FSMB colleagues on this successful event that attracted more than 570 participants for educational sessions, workshops, and keynote addresses.  The meeting highlighted the importance of building trust and strengthening regulatory practice across borders, priorities that closely align with IAMRA’s purpose and ongoing work to support medical regulators worldwide.

    IAMRA 2027 Conference Update

I am pleased to provide an update on the IAMRA 2027 Conference to be held in Hong Kong from 1-4 September 2027.

The conference planning committee, including representatives of the IAMRA Board and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, is focused on addressing the real and emerging challenges facing health professional regulators worldwide.

The meeting theme will be: “Reimagining Medical Regulation: Bridging Education to Practice to Shape the Healthcare Workforce.” The conference will emphasize the importance of medical regulation across the full education‑to‑practice continuum.

The Committee also confirmed the timeline of events for the coming year:

    • Abstract submission portal opens: October 2026
    • Online registration opens: January 2027
    • Abstract submission deadline: mid‑February 2027
    • Notification of abstract acceptance: mid‑March 2027
    • Early‑bird registration closes: mid‑July 2027

We hope sharing these milestones will support Members, Partners, and interested organizations in planning abstract submissions and meeting attendance.

    AI Working Group Update

As reported in March, the inaugural meeting of IAMRA’s new AI Working Group was held on 26 March. Following an introduction by the Working Group Chair, Dr. Muhannad Almughthim, the group discussed and agreed on the best approach to developing policy guidance on AI‑related matters relevant to medical regulation. Given the rapid pace of change and development in this area, and diversity of regulatory models across our membership, members agreed that a principles‑based approach would deliver the greatest potential value.

The Working Group will meet again over the next two months to develop and consult on a draft policy guidance document with the IAMRA membership. Please keep an eye out for further updates that will be shared in future editions of this newsletter, member emails, and via the IAMRA website.

    Warm Regards,

    Nicole Krishnaswami, JD

    IAMRA Chair

IAMRA Physician Information Exchange (PIE)

The PIE is a platform that facilitates enhanced information sharing across international borders for IAMRA members (who are medical regulatory authorities) about the doctors that they register in the interests of public protection. This may include information about doctors who have had action taken against them and who may attempt to practice in another jurisdiction. It may also include those who make fraudulent applications for registration.

PIE is an exclusive service for IAMRA members and has been noted in recent international investigations as a practical and effective solution to prevent physicians with serious sanctions moving between jurisdictions undetected.

The PIE platform and other useful information including a Quick Start Guide and Guidelines are available on thmembers-only section of the website.

Please contact Sarah Heermans, IAMRA Director of Operations, at sheermans@iamra.com for more information and to register for the PIE.
